From Snakebites to Storytime: How We Keep Going

Let’s be honest—September hit hard.
In September, we lost people we love. My dog was bitten by a rattlesnake while playing ball in the dark [she survived and is back to normal thank God]. There were appointments (one after another) that left me emotionally and physically drained. The usual knee pain made its presence known, and for good measure? I had two heat strokes. Because why not? It’s only been in the 100s for six months in most of Arizona! Thankfully, October started with something beautiful—cooler mornings and evenings, a baby shower for a family member, plans for the holidays and today? A much-needed day off.
Sometimes it feels like the world’s piling on—one annoyance, one injustice, one loss at a time. So what do we do? How do we cope?
We read.
We pick up stories that lift us, even if just for a few minutes. And hey—I’ve written a few that might help:
📚 Rudy’s Rescue (Book One)
📚 Pinky Pickle Discovers a Bully
📚 Pinky Pickle Rides a Bull
📚 Pinky Pickle and the Pirate Peas (with activity pages!)
📚 And now, a hardcover edition combining all three Pinky books in one, complete with activities.
Though I wrote these books for kids, I’m discovering something sweet—folks over 50 are loving them too. Maybe because life doesn’t get easier as we get older, but a little whimsy and hope for the heart 💖 still go a long way.
So here’s my end of year goals, how about you?
Let’s close out the year with a slower pace, a bucket of joy, and a little less chaos...
